About Us
Our tasting room is a converted one room schoolhouse which was built around 1896. The Maple Grove School retains its original windows, floor, slate boards and bell. The building was utilized until the mid 1950’s, when the schools consolidated with the Traverse City Public School system. The building sat vacant for a few years until it was purchased by a local artist who used it as a studio. Later, the schoolhouse was purchased in hopes of turning it into a home like many of the other area one room schoolhouses.
Dave and Joan Kroupa bought the schoolhouse in 1998 and turned it into the tasting room for Peninsula Cellars, moving out of their former location which is the current Old Mission General Store. In 2013, the addition of an outdoor patio that overlooks our Maple Grove vineyard just outside the schoolhouse provides an idyllic view when enjoying a glass of wine or hard cider.
